ABOUT

The Future Stars Futurity Series is an independent series working alongside the National Campdraft Association of Australia (NCCA) and their Member Associations, and the Australian Stockmans Challenge Association (ASCA). This Series is a competition for horses that are 5 years of age and under.

A small but passionate committee heads up this Series with most members having over 35 years of involvement in the unique sport of Campdrafting, and the enterprises of competition horse breeding. Their mission is to facilitate and direct a Series where the welfare of young horses is the first priority.

The Series ‘Competition Year‘ is run from 1 August through to 31 July. This period fits perfectly around the horse’s official birthday. During the competition year, the committee monitors horse and rider combinations, and winners and placegetters from 50+ Futurity campdrafts across Northern & Central Queensland, 3-4 in NSW, and hopefully Australia wide in the near future. Future Stars points are allocated to the winner and placegetters of these campdrafts in a fair and consistent method.

At the completion of the competition year, the top 10 horses are invited to compete at the Future Stars Futurity Series Finals, where there are two full rounds of competition.  All horses compete and both rounds, and points are allocated in EACH round.

The winner and placegetters of the Future Stars Futurity Series is an aggregate of points gained during the competition year, as well as at the finals.

This Series is a progressive, respected and exciting event that celebrates the most consistent, outstanding and well looked after equine athletes.  And, it greatly rewards the horse and rider combinations who rise to the fore.

The event has grown enormously since it’s inception, as the statistics collated since 2018 show:

  • This Series is for horses 5 years of age and under competing in Futurity Campdrafts that must be affiliated with one of the following Campdraft Associations; ACA, SCA, GCA, NCCA, ABCRA or ASCA.
  • There are no fees or registration requirements.
  • The Series runs from 1 August to 31 July the following year, called the ‘competition year’.
  • The horse is considered to be 6 years old and therefore excluded from this Series on its actual birthday.
  • If the horse is started in an open age event this will eliminate them from this Series.
    • Open age events are explained in depth below.
  • A horse can gain points only from their first six (6) Futurity Campdraft starts that the eligible horse competes in that competition year, regardless of the committee’s chosen affiliation.
    • Campdraft Central Association (CCA) Futurity Campdrafts will be included in the horses first six starts.
    • You do not nominate your six starts. We strictly monitor the horses first six starts.
  • A horse can compete in consecutive competition years as long as that horse remains age eligible and does not start in any open age competition.
    • At the end of the competition year, all horses that are eligible for the next competition year start on a clean slate basis for venues and points, but again only gain points from their first six starts in that competition year.
  • The Futurity horse can gain Future Stars points at ‘un-restricted’ Futurity Campdrafts, as long as the horse does not compete in an open age event.
    • We encourage committees to explicitly outline the condition of their Futurity Campdraft on their program, i.e. For horses 5 years of age and under that have not been started and does not start in any open age events.
  • If a horse and rider combination is competing and places in a Futurity Campdraft affiliated with the ACA, SCA, GCA, NCCA or ABCRA then they automatically qualify to gain points in the Future Stars Futurity Series, as long as:
    • the committee hosting that Futurity Campdraft utilises an appropriate electronic nomination and scoring program e.g., CampdraftOne, Campdraft Central, Campdraft Coordinator or iCompete.
    • the horse is 5 years of age or younger, and has not been started in any open age events.
    • the Futurity Campdraft is not affiliated with the CCA. In cases where the committee is CCA affiliated, that Futurity event will contribute to your horses first six starts, however you will not gain points in the Future Stars Futurity Series.

Open Aged Events

  • Our committee will adopt the rules and guidelines of the NCCA regarding the status of a horse and event with the exception of Sale Incentive Campdrafts whereby our committee adopts the same eligibility criteria of the ACA and its Rookie Horse competition.
  • The ACA regards Sale Incentive Campdrafts as NOT being open age events, and therefore those horses are eligible for the Rookie Horse Series. The Future Stars Futurity Series Committee regards this to be the case too, where Sale Incentive Campdrafts are NOT open age events as these are age restricted events.
  • To further explain this, an open age event is a campdraft such as an Open, Restricted Open, Maiden, Novice, Ladies and Stallion.
    • An open age event is NOT a Sale Incentive event, Juvenile, Junior, Old Buffers, Teams Draft, Encouragement, schools or training days.
  • The winner of the Future Stars Futurity Series will not break status.

Finals Rules

  • At the end of the competition year being 31 July, the Top 10 horses are invited to the Future Stars Futurity Series Finals, run at a host committee campdraft forming a part of their program.
  • There are two full rounds at the Series Finals, with each horse starting in both rounds regardless of their first round score.
  • This is an aggregate competition, where points from the first and second round will be added to the points gained from the competition year.
  • The points awarded at the finals are explained below. Where competitors tie in the round, the points for the places will be added and split equally between tying competitors as per ACA points and prizemoney rulings.
  • There will be no run offs for first place in either of the rounds.
  • The only instance where a run off will take place is if there is a tie for first place in the overall series.
  • The rider at the finals must have competed on the horse at least once throughout the horses first six starts in their competition year. However, if there are extenuating circumstances the Future Stars Futurity Series committee will decide upon the ruling in that particular circumstance.
  • All finals points will be allocated to the 10 finalists in order of their placing, except in the case of a whip in the yard. If a competitors run results in a no score in the cut out yard, then that competitor will receive no points for that round.

Points allocation:

Allows for a controlled level playing field for all the Futurity horses.
