Anyone in the industry must surely be aware of the fairytale story of how Mal and Jane purchased the beautiful, gleaming palomino mare by Seligman Spin at Landmark in 2013.
And the fairytale continued as Jabell Shekera Spin started to win and win and win in the campdraft arena under the guidance of Troy Palmer.
Mal and Jane went to Landmark with the intention of purchasing a couple of well-bred mares to compete and then breed from to continue their interest in the campdraft world. As Jane says the plan went astray very early. Shekera was Lot 10 and Jane admits she was a sucker for the pretty pally, while Mal just got excited with the whole auction hype. They blew their budget by 8.30am, but they owned Shekera and the rest has become history.
Shekera has been everything that any horse owner would want. Her talent is undisputed, her performance record talks for itself and she is an absolute gem to own. Jane has had so much fun with her in Ladies Drafts as have other jockeys fortunate enough to have been offered a ride on her.
However, when things are serious, and Troy gets aboard she is the ultimate professional and the pair have had many victories including the Masters at Landmark, Sydney Royal World Championship draft and the ABCRA Open Horse of the Year, and an impressive 6 Open wins in a row and 3 being on the one weekend at Coolah Campdraft winning the O4O, Open and the Open Shootout making a treasured birthday present for Jane.
Mal and Jane have had an extensive breeding campaign with Shekera, they have been fortunate to have seven foals from this mighty mare and Makenn Onehelofaduck, aka Duckie, is 1 of 5 colts produced for Mal and Jane. Duckie is a product of Jabell Shekera Spin winning the Open Draft at Tamworth enroute to the Warwick Gold Cup. They received a Service to Duckrey sponsored by Neil Faint and Amanda Nicholson, which resulted in this stunning Stallion Makenn Onehelofaduck.
Jane has always had a love of a Palomino horse and Duckie is nearly a carbon copy of his mother Jabell Shekera Spin.
Duckie started his show career in 2023 after being in training with Rob Leach for 2 years. In the February he competed at his very first show, the ARCHA Trinity Veterinary Services Open Futurity. Competition was very tight, and although he placed 3rd, only half a point separated 1st, 2nd and 3rd. His earnings of $2,034.90 saw him off to a great start.
Duckie experienced similar success in his next outing, the ARCHA Hackamore Classic, where he placed 4th in the Open Hackamore, 6th in the Open Hackamore Classic and 6th in the Open 2 Handed Cowhorse.
Duckie will now start his second chapter as a Non Pro Horse with Jane Kennedy taking the reins.
