Yearlings Top Select Sale

Curlewis local vendor Raelene Higgins was in the spotlight on the weekend at the 2017 NCHA Select Cutting Horse sale where she bagged the top priced sale horse.

Coming from multiple aged event champion mare and NCHA Hall of Fame entrant One Hellofa Spin with earnings in excess of $153,000, it wasn’t hard to see why the beautifully presented yearling chestnut filly was highly sort after. But a successful home was guaranteed when highest bidders SDM Quarter Horses secured the filly via the phone all the way from their home of Goondiwindi in QLD.

“She was really the best pick of the day,” said SDM Quarter Horses representative Andrea McCosker.  We originally started out looking at 10 horses from the sale, but with her dam being One Hellofa Spin, she was hard to go past. Plus we have a bit of a background with her sire SR Instant Choice and we are happy with that.”

“At this point she will most likely go to Todd (Graham) to complete her cutting training for the 2019 Futurity.”

The second highest priced sale horse was another chestnut filly entered in by vendor Karen Thrun of South Australia.

The Koonamara Spoonfula Badge x Chickasha Hope yearling garnered a neat $31,000 early on in the sale and was purchased by Tri Star Quarter Horses located in Whittlesea, Victoria.

A total of $800,000 was reached with an average of $11,567 per horse with 69 of the 93 lots sold on the day.

Thursday’s events will bring the first go round of the Two Bob Saddlery Non Pro Derby and the second go round of the Marsh Carney Saddlery Non Pro Classic. The finals will begin on Friday 9th June.
