When Rob Blacker and Alison Robertson purchased an Acres Destiny x Docs Spinifex mare in foal to American cutting sire Cattalou in 2017, they knew they were buying something unique.
At the time, Cattalou was largely unknown in Australia, with only five mares bred to him during that first season. The resulting embryo had even been sex-tested as a filly, making the purchase all the more appealing.
“When the foal arrived, we were quite surprised to find a colt on the ground,” Alison laughed. “Those tests aren’t always one hundred per cent accurate, but we were expecting a filly.”

From the beginning, Louie stood out. Alison was immediately struck by how well put together he was as a foal. “He wasn’t lanky at all. He was a nicely put-together little foal, and he always had presence. Even today he’s a very proud-looking horse.”
Interestingly, three of the five foals produced from that first Australian Cattalou breeding season went on to compete in the NCHA Futurity, including Louie.
The plan was always for him to compete in the NCHA Futurity, although there was a significant setback when he was eighteen months old, when he suffered a serious eye injury.
“He punctured the pupil, and the vet recommended removing the eye, but we said no. It was stitched back together and treated for five months, and he made a complete recovery.”
With no lasting effects from the injury, Louie entered training with Aaron Hausfeld as a 2yo, where he remains today.
The talented colt quickly justified the faith placed in him, highlighted by a victory at the Barraba Big Bash Futurity where he held the highest score from first out. He then went on to place 4th in the Limited NCHA Derby. Then, in an unorthodox and very bold move, Louie had his first couple of campdraft starts that season before resuming his cutting program.
That incredible versatility is very special. Louie transitioned seamlessly between cutting, and campdrafting and would go back and forth between them for those first two years as a competition horse. He even had a start in a Stockmans Challenge and a couple of Cowhorse events.
“It says a lot about his trainability, temperament and natural ability.” Rob and Alison said.
As a 9yo in 2026, Louie has proven to be a competitive open campdaft horse. At the 2026 Sydney Royal Easter Show, he won a round and secured the trophy for Highest Cut Out, further demonstrating the exceptional cow sense that has become one of his trademarks.

“Aaron says the sort of cow sense Louie has can’t be trained into a horse – it’s bred into them. His ability to read and rate a beast is very special. He has a big motor. He is quick, athletic and has a tremendous amount of try.”
Equally important is his temperament. “He has always had excellent manners. He’s genuinely a nice guy.”
That sensible, trainable nature allows him to switch comfortably between disciplines and riders. In 2026, Emily Bettington partnered Louie in the Nutrien Young Guns, where the pair won the cut out. “He came back beautifully for Emily.”
Before offering Louie to outside mares, Rob and Alison made a conscious decision to breed him exclusively within their own program and with Aaron’s mares to ensure he could pass on the qualities they valued most.
The early results have exceeded expectations. His first progeny are proving to be athletic, trainable and naturally talented, carrying the same willing temperament that has defined Louie’s own career.
“We wanted to be certain he would add value to the mares he covered,” Rob and Alison said. “The young horses are showing us exactly that. The foals are stunning.”
Now standing to outside mares, Kingsfield Just Louie offers breeders the opportunity to access a stallion combining elite cow sense, proven performance across multiple disciplines, exceptional trainability and a pedigree built on some of the industry’s most respected bloodlines.
As Louie continues his own competitive career, Alison and Rob are excited about the next chapter.
“We’d love to see more Louie’s on the ground and out competing. He’s been such a special horse for us, and we’d like other people to experience that too.”
