The very best sires possess a rare and elusive balance – intelligence paired with calmness, trainability matched with genuine cow sense and a desire to compete, underpinned by performance-proven bloodlines and a quality, correct type. Breeders look for everything, yet it can seldom be found in one horse. When a young colt emerges showing all of these traits and the potential to become a leading sire, it naturally creates excitement. It was this rare combination that Courtney and Ian Windsor recognised in Call Me Daddy.

From the moment they noticed the 2yo colt warming up in the week of the 2024 Nutrien Classic Sale, they were captivated. “He is the sort of horse you are drawn to watch. He stood out, and we kept noticing him all week”, Courtney said. “He was young, but he had presence. He looked like future sire material”.
Courtney and Ian went to the sale looking for a colt. They had high standards, and this was the only 2yo they believed fulfilled their requirements. “I said to Dad, I really like Call Me Mitch, and there is a colt by him in the sale”.
A deeper look at his pedigree reinforced their confidence. His dam was a proven open campdraft mare with strong breeding and quality genetics on both sides. Courtney and Ian knew they were onto something special. By the time the auction began, they were well and truly invested. They asked Leah Read—who rides several of their horses – for her opinion. As with any 2yo, there are no guarantees, but Call Me Daddy ticked every box. He moved right, looked right, and carried the pedigree to back it up. Leah was happy.
With Call Me Mitch having won the World’s Greatest Horseman the year prior and Call Me Daddy being among his oldest progeny in Australia, they anticipated strong competition. And were thrilled to be the successful buyers, at $80,000.
The colt was already affectionately known as ‘Mitchy’. And while it feels the nickname is not original enough for such a special horse, it stuck, and Mitchy he is still.
Broken in and prepared for the sale by Ben O’Reilly, Call Me Daddy had a solid foundation already in place. “Ben did an excellent job,” Courtney said. “He put a lovely start on him and kept his mind right. He set him up well and let the horse keep his personality – and we really like that about him.”
The young colt left the sale with Leah to continue his education before going home to the Windsor’s property near Barcaldine. There, he did plenty of mustering, and it didn’t take long for Courtney to form a strong opinion. “He was the coolest horse I’d ever ridden.”

Courtney and Ian were not prepared to wait to start breeding some Call Me Daddy progeny. They selected their top 3 mares for embryo transfer the first year. The resulting 3 foals hit the ground in 2025 and are as exceptional as expected. “The foals on the ground are really cute. They look like him, and are correct, with good legs, nice rein, and are very friendly.”
Returning to Leah for his 3yo year in 2025, Call Me Daddy continued to exceed expectations. His competitive debut came at the Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge, where he was entered purely for exposure. “We knew he had the ability, but being so young, we had no expectations,” Courtney said. “It was just about setting him up for the future.”
Again, he proved to be every bit the exceptional horse his owners believed him to be, making the top ten in the dry work and impressing in the wet work despite drawing a tough beast. On the way home, they stopped at the Barcaldine Campdraft, where he had his first run in a Futurity Draft, to score an 86.
His 4yo season began with impact at the Nutrien Classic Campdraft, where he top-scored in the first round of the Classic and made the Final, finishing fifth overall.
“We couldn’t be happier with him,” Courtney said. “He has turned out amazing.” So happy are they, in fact, that Ian and Courtney bought his mother.
His temperament is one of Call Me Daddy’s defining traits. Calm, easy-going and highly trainable, he also has a quirky, endearing personality. Like all intelligent horses, he’s a bit of a character – but there’s no malice, and he is easy to get along with.

That temperament was evident at the 2025 Nutrien Campdraft, his first experience in a big arena under lights, surrounded by trucks, noise and atmosphere. “He’d never been in that environment,” Courtney said. “But he calmed quickly, came back to Leah, and performed beautifully. He’s just so calm and thoughtful.”
Watching him work only adds to the excitement. “He flows when he’s travelling, but when he comes down to stop, he grabs the ground and really wants to stop,” Courtney said. “He’s smooth and beautiful in the dry work, but really expressive on a cow. He loves to chase a cow.”
That combination of being soft yet intense, quick yet effortless, sets him apart. “To ride, he feels easy. Nothing is hard for him. Even as a 2yo, anything you asked felt like he was saying, ‘Yeah, sure, no worries.’”
Call Me Daddy will continue competing in Stockman’s Challenges, with plans to step into Cowhorse events as well. Courtney is waiting patiently for her own turn in the saddle. “Dad will get to ride him before I do,” she said. “My turn will come eventually.”
In the meantime, she is content watching a young stallion she holds in such high regard rise toward his potential, both in the arena and in the breeding barn. “I think he is an ideal sire over campdraft mares. He’s not a chunky, tanky Quarter Horse – he’s stylish. He’ll cross beautifully and produce challenge and campdraft horses.”
For Courtney and Ian, Call Me Daddy is everything they hoped for and more. A stallion with presence, performance, and a future that looks as exciting as it does effortless.
Four-Year-Old Year.
2025 saw the arival of Call Me Daddy’s very first progeny, Ian & Courtney having selected their top 3 mares for embryo transfer the first year. The resulting 3 foals are as exceptional as expected.
“The foals on the ground are really cute. They look like him, and are correct, with good legs, nice rein, and are very friendly.”
