From his seat at home watching the 2023 Nutrien Supreme Sale, Cameron Dunlop made the decision to buy a yearling colt he had never seen in the flesh. He admits it was a bit of a risk, but in hindsight, he has no regrets. It took very little time for the young colt he and partner Andie Kearns purchased to prove himself worthy of the gamble.
Cameron’s interest in the colt was based largely on his sire, Rollz Royce, a US sire he had long admired.

“We hadn’t put any thought into buying him at all. We were watching the sale online, he came through, and we liked the breeding and the presence he had. He didn’t make as much as we thought he might, so we put a bid in at the end.”
It was a calculated gamble. With limited Rollz Royce progeny in Australia, Cameron and Andie thought that if the colt developed the qualities they were looking for under saddle, he could have genuine sire potential.
When “Archie” stepped off the truck, however, there were a few nerves.
“He was a late foal and appeared small. We realised though that this probably worked in our favour. We had been surprised that more people didn’t bid on him, and when we saw him, we realised that was probably the reason.”
Any doubts were soon allayed. Archie grew and developed beyond expectations and, when Cameron started him in December 2023, the qualities they had hoped for quickly began to emerge.
From the outset, he was smart, sensitive and willing, with a great work ethic. “He was always looking for the right answers. He was never any trouble.”
Just as importantly for a colt, he was easy to have around. “He has always been so well behaved. People come up to us all the time and say they can’t believe he’s a colt. He’s just a pleasure.”
As their confidence in Archie grew, Cameron and Andie brought good friends Kyle and Belinda Chivers into a syndicate, giving the promising young horse greater opportunities for the future.

His first Open Challenge came at the Killara Feedlot Challenge in October 2024. Barely 3yo and with only nine months under saddle, Archie was entered simply to give him some event experience.
“We didn’t expect him to do any good, but he made the final,” Cameron said. What made that debut even more encouraging were the circumstances in which Archie produced the performance. They arrived late, and it was a rush to make it to the arena for the dry work.
“We trotted from the float to the arena.” For Cameron, the young colt’s composure that day confirmed something that has since become one of his greatest strengths.
“He was very consistent and has been ever since. He performs under pressure and, even if I am nervous, he never lets anything get to him. At any event, he feels exactly as he does at home.
“Every time I walk in on him, I have confidence. When you don’t have to worry about the horse, you can enjoy the experience.”
While Archie is calm and has a genuinely friendly, cooperative temperament, he comes to life when it counts. “He has a lot of horsepower. He is electric on a cow. But he is calm until it counts. He waits until he knows the job is on.”
Cameron says there is very little he can fault about Archie, particularly when it comes to working cattle.
“He makes everything feel easy. He has a way about him on cattle. For a while I thought he was just getting good cattle, but he makes cattle travel soft – he creates good cattle.”

Compact, strong and naturally balanced, Archie also carries himself with a presence that attracts attention wherever he goes. Cameron believes much of the ease with which he works comes from the way he is naturally put together, allowing him to get into the ground while travelling flat, soft and smooth.
“Everything you want to do with him feels effortless. You don’t have to put him there – he naturally wants to be there.”
With his Derby years ahead of him in 2027, PCD Destiny Rollz will continue to campaign in challenges while gradually stepping into cow horse events and campdrafting. There is no rush. His owners believe his desire to work, ability to read cattle and natural cow sense will only strengthen with time.
Away from competition, Archie remains very much a favourite to have around – although Cameron admits there is one person who ranks above everyone else in Archie’s eyes.
“Andie is his favourite,” Cameron laughs. “I have to go to wherever he is in the paddock to catch him, but if he sees her coming, he will come sprinting across to her. He puts his head on her shoulder. He just loves her.”
Andie says the feeling is mutual. “We love everything about him.”
For a colt initially bought from a computer screen on a hunch, PCD Destiny Rollz has given his owners plenty of reasons to be excited about the future – not only about what he can achieve in the arena, but about the qualities he may one day pass on as a sire.

PCD Destiny Rollz breeder, Peter and Carolyne Doonan, told the new owners that Stardust was an exceptional mare, whose career was unfortunately cut short due to injury. Peter says he had never ridden a horse quite like her. “She was an extremely talented and gritty campdraft mare who, prior to injury, would consistently get 24 camps and high outside scores.”
