Ben & Jaye Hall’s stud, Halls Brahmans, originated from Jaye’s parents, Noel & Dallas Daley, herd of Caiwarra Brahmans. They have been out on their own breeding bulls now since 2005 when they moved to Bibil, 60 kms north of Muttaburra in Western Qld.
The stud involves ET programs using imported semen chosen by visual assessment through various internet sites. Jaye relies heavily on visual appraisal although figures are included in final decisions. Consequently, Halls Brahman single sire herds are all recorded for EBV’s.
The first bulls from Halls Brahmans were offered for sale in 2007 through paddock sales. Paddock sales of bulls aged between 18 months to 2 years are year round and have been their main sales venue; however some bulls have now been included in various sales rings including Rockhampton and Charters Towers.
Prospective buyers are all encouraged to inspect the bulls in the paddock before purchasing. There are no plans to incorporate an on farm sale.
Bullzey is one of the favourite bulls, bred by Halls Brahmans and retained for their own purposes.

Halls Brahmans run the stud in 3 different sections. The Red Brahman herd consists of about 70 stud breeders which run in 2 single sire herds. The Grey Brahman herd involves 250 stud grey cows which run in 3 single sire herds. A third herd is a multiple herd running 140 grey stud cows with multiple sires. The stud cows run mainly on Downs country with Gidgee and Channel country also being utilised.
Each year they aim to sell about 100 bulls both in the paddock and through the Big Country sale at Charters Towers in February.
Temperament is a quality that Ben and Jaye focus on. Stud cows must meet their temperament criteria before other traits are considered. The stud then focuses on fertility, teats & udders, doing ability, feet and leg structure and bone.
Halls Brahmans also have a large percentage of polls through both their breeders and their bulls and whilst they are concentrating on that attribute, they are careful not to sacrifice other traits that are considered equally important.
Due to the isolated location of Bibil the Halls’ rarely show cattle, but 2015 saw them support the 2015 Beef Week show. A small team was prepared and at their first showing at the Caves Show the stud presented the Junior Champion Bull and Ben & Jaye’s daughter Madison was the Junior Champion Handler. At Beef Week all bulls placed in the big classes of up to 60 bulls.
“HALLS TOP OF THE RANGE”, aptly named because he topped the Caves Show, winning Calf Champion and Grand Champion bull on their first ever outing! Next Show they placed Reserve Champion at Beef Australia.
Halls Brahmans, they faced adversity in the floods and came out the other side. How fortunate, look at the magnificent breeding!
Thirty lovely, quiet, young poll bulls straight out of the paddock, just put together at Caiwarra for a repeat buyer. [View video on Facebook]
