Today’s competition to be televised on Seven.
After nearly 700 rounds of competition, we now have just 57 competitors who have qualified for today’s semi-final. All 57 competitors have a score in both the first round and the second round to qualify them for the $100,000 winner’s check—the largest single prize in campdrafting history.
Today Pete Comiskey is still the one to beat. He came to the competition with ten horses and seven have gone through to today’s rounds to compete in the semi-final.
Round One was won by Pete Comiskey from Nebo in North Queensland, riding ‘Just Jim’. He’s done it again today, riding ‘Kneipps Ransom’ and he is now sitting as our number one rider looking to win back-to-back Willinga Park Championship Gold Buckle Campdrafts.
The other names of note who have qualified are:
• Ben McNaughton who’s riding ‘Porsche’ having two 90+ scores in the rounds.
• Kimberley Sammon is one of our best placed female riders.
• Young Gun Luke Sheeney is one of our youngest competitors to qualify and at only 17 years of age he’s riding well beyond his years and is a real contender today.
• Nigel Cable, a legend of the sport, who has won the Warwick Gold Cup qualified on ‘Chevin Ivory’, this pair have won every major title in the country except the Gold Buckle. Is 2019 his year?
• Terry Snow’s horse, Romeo’s Child with Troy Palmer has qualified for today’s events.
Competition begins again this morning at 8 am with 57 competitors. This afternoon, look for 78 competitors in a repercharge. 25 competitors will be live on channel seven at midday.
