Electric Duck is a clever little horse who has spent his whole life being competitive, pleasing his connections and stepping up to whatever is asked of him. He is the ultimate family horse and is now proving to be equally as impressive as a sire.
Being beautifully bred with elite cutting genetics, Electric Duck was sent to Jason Leitch to be prepared for the cutting pen. He was always an honest competitor winning his share before being transferred to Troy Randell in Victoria to continue his career.
Electric Duck was then sold on and was eventually purchased by Nathan and Tammy Quinlan, who could not be happier with him. He ticks every box this family wanted in a stallion and more. He is competitive for all members of the family, his temperament is exemplary and his ability allows them to show him on the big stages.
Nathan had just returned to the sport of horses that he had always loved as a youngster and was starting to become more involved in campdrafting. He had some handy mares and was looking to start breeding better horses. Electric Duck proved to be just the horse for their family operation. When Nathan started Electric Duck’s campdrafting career he immediately realised that he had a special horse. The places started coming in the campdrafts he attended and soon Electric Duck was an Open Horse after winning the Open at Widgee.
The family was having loads of fun with Electric Duck, but Nathan thought he was doing so well he deserved a chance on the bigger stage so the industry could see his real potential.
Enter Mark Buttsworth. Nathan approached Mark to ride Electric Duck at Paradise a couple of years ago. He did and was happy with how this stallion approached his cattle and how cool minded he was. So when Nathan and Tammy decided before the Big 3 in 2018 to take Electric Duck to Condamine, Chinchilla and Warwick Mark was again approached to be the jockey. The results for this new combination were very impressive and the Campdraft world who hadn’t previously seen Electric Duck certainly took notice. Mark and Electric Duck headed straight to the top of the leaderboards throughout the rounds at Condamine, before finishing equal second.
The good news continues for Electric Duck as Nathan will be attending the Super Series Campdrafts and Mark will again step into the saddle for these bigger events.
Being by Blue Duck Oakie and from Lectrolace, Electric Duck offers genetics that differ substantially from many of the current champion cutting sires. It is here that he will offer such an important genetic option into Australian Campdraft and Cutting breeding barns as his ability and temperament are already evident to the keen genetic followers.
Electric Duck has young stock broken in and ready to go and Nathan and Tammy couldn’t be happier with them, so the future couldn’t look brighter for this classy grey stallion.
